Why Your Business Needs a Health Check

Good Morning,

I hope you’ve had a great week! Mine has been productive but it got me thinking and I wanted to share it with you this week.

Who knew that lawnmowers needed servicing? This was the unexpected discovery last weekend had in store for me. Thankfully, Daddy Bell came to the rescue. But this revelation had me wondering—if my lawnmower needs a service, my car needs a service, and who knows what else in my house requires regular upkeep, then why do so many business owners neglect to service their business?

Many of us are guilty of never stopping to jump off that hamster wheel—the endless treadmill of clients and daily tasks. We rarely take a moment to truly assess where our business challenges are, where opportunities lie, what the threats are, and which areas need our attention. I wanted to help you all, especially those of you who haven’t yet stepped off the hamster wheel and given your business a much-needed health check.

Taking a step back to evaluate your business can save you money, save you time, and increase your profits. Ultimately, this is what your business needs to be sustainable and to thrive in the long term. Did you know that the most optimistic statistic I found was that 50% of businesses don’t survive beyond five years? Even more staggering, Michael from HMDG mentioned that 96% of small businesses don’t make it past their first year. The data is not great, folks.

If you’re still running your business, I applaud you. However, it’s important to consider how many of these surviving businesses are just barely getting by—plateaued, stagnant, not growing, and not generating the income they need. Most are just surviving, but we’re here to thrive!
