Are You The Biggest Obstacle In Your Business?

How do I get more clients? How do I manage my staff? How can I do less clinical work and make the same amount or even more money? How can I increase my profit levels?
Ask any health and wellness business owner what their biggest challenge is and they’ll probably say one of the above. Very rarely will you hear a business owner turn around and admit that the biggest obstacle in their business right now is themselves.
It’s a hard pill to swallow, and in no way in this article intended to make you feel any worse than you might do so already, but it’s a reality we all need to face up to as business owners.
So let’s begin…
What are your belief systems? And where are they coming from?
Your business, what you see right now, is actually a product of your beliefs. In fact, every single one of your thoughts is either helping you move your business forwards, or holding your business back.
Take a moment to let that sink in…
Now consider where your current beliefs come from.
Towards this, I recently ran a workshop and asked the group to consider their money thermostat, and why they thought it had been set at that level. I started by asking them to think back to what they often heard about money when growing up.
For me, I would often hear ‘money doesn’t grow on trees’ or ‘’we don’t buy anything that we can’t afford’ from my parents. And although both statements are important to understand and appreciate (especially when we’re young and managing our own finances for the first time), they can also inhibit us.
I would never have, for example, started my own business if I based my beliefs around money entirely on them, as on paper I couldn’t afford to do so. And having started my own business, I would never have taken on my first recruit.
Perhaps a similar turn of phrase is embedded into you, one that served an important purpose at some point in time but is now holding you back from taking your business forward?
Or perhaps you need to think less about your formative years and focus more on your current environment – most notably, how much news are you consuming and how is this affecting you?
Personally, I made the decision about 10 years ago to stop listening to and reading the news as I was finding that it was having a really powerful effect on how I showed up in my business and the decisions that I was taking.
I’m not saying you have to do the same, but just suggesting to keep in mind that if we want to change our environment, our reality, and our business, we’ve got to upgrade our belief system, and the media we consume is going to be having a massive impact on this.
You need to start being conscious
If, at this point, you’re only just realising something about the way you run your business that is so glaringly obvious now that you think about it, then this is perfectly normal – the pressures of running a business mean that we often operate unconsciously.
Monday to Friday, we’re on a treadmill of clients, trying to deal with all the admin and the enquiries and emails coming through, all the while trying to find the time to put together exercise plans and chasing up insurance companies.
We’re just going from A to B, and we get to a Friday and we’ve no idea how we really got there. It’s like when you get in a car and drive somewhere, and when you arrive at your destination you cannot recall how you’ve just got there.
But without spending time on you, and without stepping into that conscious brain, your business will not become what you want it to be. You will be operating purely on autopilot based on your unconscious belief systems, meaning that even the best marketing strategy, recruitment strategy or financial forecast will only get you so far.
After all, you can’t out strategy a faulty mindset.
Does your mindset and belief system need an upgrade?
If it does, schedule a call with me and let’s figure it out together.
We’ll spend an hour together digging deeper into how your business is currently doing, how your mindset and belief systems might be affecting things, and finish by putting together a clear 30-day plan of action that you can use to transform your business.
And if it feels like you’re a good fit for one of our coaching programmes, we’ll discuss that as well. But if not, no worries. It will be good just to talk about your business and see how I can help.
Thrive is here to help you realise your true potential.
